Hey everyone! Today is a great day to get caught up with some new sludge metal and stoner rock music. With the new year coming up, it’s time to start planning for the future. I like to zone out and imagine what I want to do while listening to music. Lots of great bands to choose from this week so let’s get right into it!
MAHARAJA — ‘AVIARIUM’
This one is for all of my true sludge metal lovers! Starting us off good and heavy is Dayton Ohio’s sludge/doom metal band MAHARAJA. The latest EP ‘Aviarium’ is their fourth release and a new personal favorite. MAHARAJA has a delicious darkness that captivates me before I even hear any lyrics. STONES OF BABYLON — ‘ISHTAR GATE’
Too dank for words… but I’ll try. STONES OF BABYLON is a psychedelic/stoner band from Lisbon, Portugal who has recently come out with a new album called ‘Ishtar Gate’. This new instrumental album is a serious mood-setter if you’re looking to delve deep into an indica-like abyss. ‘Ishtar Gate’ has elements of Portuguese origins with their carefully choreographed chords. That, laced with stoner-psych makes for a brilliant, often hypnotizing, cultural experience. CHANT OF THE GODDESS — “ENJOY THIS SIN”
If it’s a sin to enjoy this song then I am guilty as hell. CHANT OF THE GODDESS is a progressive doom/sludge metal band from São Paulo, Brazil who, after a handful of years, has finally unleashed this monster of a song called “Enjoy This Sin”. How they go from split vocals of demons versus angels to a lengthy instrumental jam session makes for a well-rounded track. Not to mention a new version of their earlier song “Cantico della Dea” from their 2017 album. Devilishly divine in every way, I can’t help but to “Enjoy This Sin”. BUNSENBURNER — ‘POISE’
If you’re in the mood for succulent stoner rock ambience then this is the one for you! BUNSENBURNER is an ambient/stoner/doomgaze band from Freiburg Im Breisgau, Germany. The new album ‘Poise’ is their latest EP and the fourth album from their discography. ‘Poise’ is an audio-centric wanderlust that’s a perfect soundtrack for anyone to let their day fall into a dream. KAISER — ‘TURNED TO STONE – CHAPTER 6 SPLIT’
For a fiery finish we have KAISER and their side of a split album called ‘Turned To Stone – Chapter 6’. KAISER is a desert/stoner/fuzz rock band from Helsinki, Finland who’s music is nothing short of some serious rock n roll. From their vocal range to the way they play, it’s an adrenaline rush from beginning to end.
