Another week, another crazy set of events! Hope you’re all doing well! Personally, this 2nd… err 3rd? lockdown is just too much but hey… gotta save those lives! And while we’re all locked indoors or drudging to work it’s nice to smoke some weed and fall out to some killer stoner/doom metal music! Let’s get into some new shit!
“A THRONE ABANDONED” – GREEN DRUID
GREEN DRUID is coming out with a new album bit by bit! Two weeks ago I posted their latest release called “The Forest Dark” from the upcoming album ‘At The Maw Of Ruin‘ which will be out December 4th! For this song we get to hear more of those ethereal feminine vocals mixed with the doom and gloom that is GREEN DRUID. Seriously holding out hope that I’ll be able to fix my “missed connections” moment and see them perform live someday. But for now I’m looking forward to hearing their album in its entirety!

Chelsea Wolfe and Jess Gowrie came together for this kick ass punk/stoner metal band called MRS. PISS! Punk mixed with stoner metal? Yeah — It’s a slick fuckin combo. Their debut album ‘Self-Surgery’ came out May 29th this year and I’m amazed that I’ve just now heard it! Below is the title track from the album (my favorite). The fast-paced “fuck yourself” drumming blending into slow crawling riffs and a haunting, vibrant moan (and back again) makes this a very unique style. I’ve seen something similar with FISTER when they went back and forth from sludge/crust doom to doom/surf. But this is definitely a different vibe — witchy, darker, punk rock, mixed with badass feminine power.

How’s about a little throwback? The Doom/Stoner Metal band from Clermont Ferrand, France has got all of my boxes check off with this one. WITCHFINDER has been making music since about 2017, but this is their latest release from 2019 (a year we all miss dearly) — ‘Hazy Rites’. A real headbanger and this stoner music lover’s new favorite! Classic stoner metal sound with a heavy bassline and the perfect vocals. The rest of the album is a knock out! Yes, that is a MFKN saxophone! I didn’t know stoner metal could get sensual/sexy like that. This song fills me with a vibe I can’t quite describe — a sensual abduction. REZN mixes a sax with melodic stoner tones and it works in a crazy amazing way. Their album ‘Chaotic Divine’ was released October 1st of this year (so not too long ago), and is their 5th album (including a live album) since 2017. I highly recommend checking out this Chicago band just for the interesting fusion of moods, it’s almost like stoner jazz!

This band from Columbus, Ohio is pretty fuckin stellar! WEED DEMON ‘s 4th studio album ‘Crater Maker’ came out on April 3rd of this year. One of my favorite songs would have to be “Birthquake” — a long droning tune, all instrumental, drawing me closer to a calming glassy-eyed state. A perfect song to get loaded to with some heavy indica. I’d love to see them perform live sometime (next year?). Check out their song “Birthquake” below!
