Welcome back! My goodness… 2020 has been whoooo! But you know what? We are almost through this crazy ass year! The embarrassment of having a hate mongering, orange-faced, baby-tempered President is over! I was going to do this LAST week but I was way too tossed from celebrating the victory. Either way, I’ve got some new goodies from a few of my favorites and some entirely new (to me and MFKNZINE) bands!
The first song on this EP is called “Candy” — it evokes a dark euphoria within your atmosphere. It feels like the aurora borealis are pouring out of me, surrounding me, enveloping me. ‘The Black Moon’ album itself is a 3-Track work of art; it’s like getting lost in the woods… but you want to be lost. This is a great album to chill out to solo or possibly even meditate with (track #2 for sure). I highly recommend checking out this killer band from Phoenix, Arizona! This album dropped earlier this year but they do have a longer album from a couple years ago called ‘Death Spells’. They are definitely here for that witchy vibe!

Latest album by my favorite Boston band LESSER GLOW is called ‘Nullity’ and was released earlier this year in May. First of all, the screaming is more intense than their last album. Secondly, the songs seem to highlight more of the band’s full range and attributes (as a sophomore album tends to do). LESSER GLOW doesn’t stray too far from their melodic roots however. By mid-album during “Versterven” they mix a variety of their classic melody with twisted, and sour notes. Another beauty to add to the list for sure! I highly recommend you check them out if you haven’t already!

Let’s get nastyyyy! YATRA has come out with a new album! This October they released ‘All is Lost’ on Grimoire Records and it’s a fuckin killer. The Maryland doom metal band has been solidly cranking out music for years but this one has got to be my favorite one from them. Nasty vocals, a sexy guitar solo or two, and grimy doom rhythms. This is the kind of album I’d put on for a chill house party, or a chill kickback with a handful of close friends (you know, all COVID safe and whatnot). This is another one of my go-to bands for some Stoner/Doom metal music! I randomly heard them over the radio when I was living San Jose from the SJSU Metal Channel broadcast (nice one!). But alas, I heard about them AFTER they had already toured in my area and left (ugh). Either way, I was still introduced to this badass band from Denver! This is their latest released single called ‘The Forest Dark’ from their upcoming album ‘From The Maw of Ruin’ which will be out December 4th, 2020! Clean vocals mixed with a low succubus growl. Changes of tempo chilling down the vibe but prolonging the overall feeling of the song. If ‘The Forest Dark’ is just a preview of what’s to come for the rest of the album… I’m pretty sure we’re going to be blown away. Mark your MFKN calendars.

Always end with a BANGER! Okay, so this band is COMPLETELY new to me. They came out with their first album called ‘Burial Songs’ in 2017 and I can’t believe I’m just now hearing them! This is another badass band from Denver and their metal method is something to behold. Another band that I can happily describe as an epicenter of dark euphoria — ambient and uplifting like a sativa-hybrid. The vocals are my favorite characteristic of this single; simple and deeply harmonizing with the music (probably what makes this song so euphoric for me personally). I’m going to be checking out more of their work for future Stoner Metal Saturday posts for sure!
