Another day in purgatory. Will quarantine ever end? Will people stop being dumb and wear masks around others? Where did this new mole come from? So many questions. But fuck all of that, it’s time for some MFKN music! Saturdays are my best days — time to clean the whole house while smoking weed and using sage in every corner. Or, for children (…and some adults) the classic “cereal, cartoons, and video games” is the recipe for a perfect Saturday. So here are some albums to get you through another weird “is it Saturday cause all of my days kinda run together now”.
LAKE NATRON — ‘INEMURI’
If you’re looking for something dark and heavy, this is what you need right here. LAKE NATRON is a Sludge/Doom/Post-Metal band from Rosenheim, Germany coming in with their first EP ‘Inemuri’. Really loving how they put this together for their very first album. It’s sludgy with the vocals, with rock out riffs throughout, and some killer doom undertones. LAKE NATRON‘s album is a mixture of melodic sludge, and I can’t wait to see what their second album will sound like (it’s always the 2nd one that really solidifies the band’s sound for some reason). If you’re loving what you’re hearing, check out LAKE NATRON’s new album ‘Inemuri’ below. And if you like what you hear, go straight to their Band Camp to purchase!
AFGHAN HAZE — ‘NIHILISTIC STONER HYMNS’
Of COURSE I had to play this one — I needed to hear what that legendary strain of weed sounded like. Not what I expected, but I fuckin love it. AFGHAN HAZE‘s ‘Nihilistic Stoner Hymns’ album has a blackened stoner rock/psych vibe right from the beginning. Deep, dark, and doomy — just how I like it. This is the second album by AFGHAN HAZE which are both generally on the witchy side thematically. The Connecticut-based band has really found their calling with this style of music! I definitely need more! Annnnnnd if you like what you hear below (“if” hahaha!), then check out their Band Camp to purchase the album!
AZTAKEA — ‘THE CRAWLING CHAOS’
You want to get a little darker? Hell yeah you do. AZTAKEA is a Sludge/Doom band from Sweden coming out with their second release ‘The Crawling Chaos’. It’s a slow, dark doom outer shell with a creamy thrash/doom metal center at the end of “Domination/Annihilation” (my favorite song from the album). Highly recommend to the indica smokers out there who need a little boost to their music. AZTAKEA‘s album ‘The Crawling Chaos’ can be listened to below and it can be purchased right over here at this link!
UNDER RITUAL — ‘SELF TITLED’
Okay, it’s time to liven things up a bit! UNDER RITUAL is a grunge/alternative/stoner rock band from Uruguay and this is their first release! As soon as I played UNDER RITUAL‘s self titled album it took me straight to the 90’s (my favorite era) — it’s so reminiscent of PEARL JAM. Released last December, UNDER RITUAL‘s self titled album brings a new edge to a classic genre. Really hoping they continue with this style since I haven’t heard grunge (good grunge) in a long time! Check out their album below and be sure to head over to their Band Camp page to purchase!
ALBINOBEACH — ‘THE LADDER’
Where does ALBINOBEACH‘s ‘The Ladder’ go? It takes you on a melodic metal ride through the galaxy (smoke something wild before you listen to this). Completely instrumental from Johannesurg, South Africa ALBINOBEACH brings a warmth and a groove that makes you feel like that really really drunk guy at the outdoor metal festival (you know, the one without his shirt on dancing like a hippie). If you’re looking for some nonstop grooves, this is the album for you! Listen to ALBINOBEACH‘s ‘The Ladder’ below and go to their official Band Camp page to purchase!
