Wow, it’s actually cold here now… how rude!
Hey everyone! It’s finally full-blown winter here in LA and we all hate it. Let’s warm up with some hot new music! What I’m in the mood for is something that will either get my blood pumping or to vibe out with next to this overworked heater. Either way, we’re staying warm (and mostly staying in) this weekend with some bomb ass music so let’s go!
THROWING BRICKS — ‘THE BURDEN’
To rage or not to rage, this album could honestly go either way. Meet THROWING BRICKS, the blackened sludge metal band from Utrecht, Netherlands! Just a little over a month ago they released their second album called ‘The Burden’ which is a rollercoaster of genuine cries and soul crushing screams. THROWING BRICKS‘ sound is a bit like AMENRA but definitely has a style all their own. In some parts it feels so mellow (like Indica) and then suddenly it breaks out into a blaze of tumultuous anger. The fluidity of the songs melting together to create an environment you get lost in — and then you realize you’re just lost in yourself, and everything this kind of music brings out. ‘The Burden’ is a deeply emotional and beautiful album. TELLURE — “BROKEN MACHINE”
Incoming killer new track! French stoner rock duo TELLURE has released their first self-titled EP late last September and this music video for “Broken Machine”. From Clermont Ferrand, France TELLURE is a high-energy, bluesy kind of stoner rock with a hint of alternative rock. Out of all of their new songs, “Broken Machine” would be my favorite of the five — doesn’t hurt that the album starts with it too! “Strong clean vocals with electrifying guitar playing and a whole lot of attitude” is a great way one could describe TELLURE. This is the kind of music I’d love to hear during a sexy strip tease performance with a lot of hair tossing. DEMONABYZZ — ‘DEMONABYZZ’
If you’re looking for that filthy garage-type of sound but everyone’s been hotboxing in it and somehow music was made, this is the album for you! Yes! DEMONABYZZ is a raw, but stellar album from the beautiful country Brazil and they’ve released their first EP. The psycho-tropic mellowness of the riffs and the hazy-lazy vocals give DEMONABYZZ a stoner/fuzz quality. This is a great album to smoke up with not just because the band is heard smoking on the album, but because you feel high listening to it whether you’re smoking or not. LOST BARON — ‘DARK MESSIAH’
“Thunderous riffs and raging voices” is the perfect way to describe LOST BARON — a hardcore stoner metal band from Belgium. ‘Dark Messiah’ would be their third hellish EP to date since their inception in 2015 with LOST BARON‘s first album ‘Kelder’. For a band called LOST BARON they seem to have found their sound on this record — a bit of black metal, a lot of stoner rock, and an occult-like air about them. MYTHOSPHERE — ‘PATHOLOGICAL’
This one’s for the metalheads who love old school 80’s/90’s heavy metal, progressive metal, and doom! MYTHOSPHERE is a progressive doom metal band from North East, Maryland who’s got an interesting take on the genre. Their new album ‘Pathological’ is a powerhouse record for anyone who’s into nostalgia, vibrating vocals, and riffs for days. It’s not too heavy, but it isn’t soft either — MYTHOSPHERE is a perfect balance in the middle of Heaven and Hellfire. GREENBEARD — ‘VARIANT’
Feisty, psychedelic, and radiant are the words that come to mind when listening to ‘Variant’ by GREENBEARD. Coming from Austin, Texas this wouldn’t be their first rodeo (couldn’t resist). GREENBEARD has been making music since their self-titled album back in 2014. My favorite song has got to be “Diamond in the Devil’s Grinder” — that random saxophone was a great addition. ‘Variant’ is an eclectic collection of all things blues and stoner rock with a coating of psych.
