Hey everyone! Last week was a bummer! Sorry my internet died out over the storm. Los Angeles was not built for rain at all. But! It’s a new week, and a new MFKN Metal Monday and I’m feeling pretty wild/energized! So this round I’m looking for something to match. High energy beatdown, crust, slam… anything to get my blood pumping. Let’s see what I can find!
SLEEP SERPENT — “FALSE AWAKENING” (FT. JAY MULLER)
An absolute banger! SLEEP SERPENT is a deathcore metal band from Fresno, California who’s released their song “False Awakening” featuring REMINITIONS‘ Jay Muller (deathcore band from Visalia, California). What I like about this band is that they still have the new band rawness to their deathcore style and no clean singing. This is only the beginning seeing as just earlier today SLEEP SERPENT has just announced that they’ll be releasing another song soon! With this being the first song of theirs that I’ve heard, I’m definitely going to check out what they’ve got coming next. They don’t have a Bandcamp just yet, but soon enough there will be purchasing information! COHEZION — ‘DIZTORTED’
A beauty of a beatdown album right here! From Toronto, Ontario, COHEZION is a hardcore beatdown band who’s released their second album just a few days ago! Their album ‘Diztorted’ is a rollercoaster through a hellish scene of some badass drumming and growling vocals. In less than ten minutes, this album has got me pumped up and ready to run through a wall (of death)! If you’re in Canada (Ontario) COHEZION has a show coming up this month on the 18th so you can see them live for yourself! ATOMIC WITCH — ‘CRYPT OF SLEEPLESS MALICE’
Get ready to be transported back to the 80’s with this one! ATOMIC WITCH is a death/thrash metal band from Cleveland, Ohio who’s been around since 2019. ‘Crypt of Sleepless Malice’ is their newest release with blazing riffs and red-hot vocals all in the tune of true classic 80’s heavy metal thrash/death. Their guitar chords versus the vocal range — both of them wailing — invoke a whole experience that gives you a true sense of the decade. Aside from this ATOMIC WITCH has had two other EPs and a single release. BEHEAD THE BETRAYER — ‘DISPOSED OF’
Are you ready for some brutality? BEHEAD THE BETRAYER is a brutal deathcore band from New Oxford, Pennsylvania who’s just released (I believe) their second album. ‘Disposed Of’ is an irreverent sacrilege that infuses deathcore with sounds of the murkiest part of Hell. To top it all off the gastric gutturals give off that lively brutality we’ve all come to know and love throughout the record. The new album by BEHEAD THE BETRAYER is heavy as hell from start to finish and doesn’t let go of it’s chokehold till the very end. TERMINAL SLEEP — ‘CHAPTER 1: NO SOLACE’
Ughhhh this is what I needed! Metal core band from Melbourne, Australia TERMINAL SLEEP is a jewel in a pile of rocks. Pure fucking violence from the first chord to the last scream — and this is their debut album! ‘Chapter 1: No Solace’ is the definition of relentlessness and destroys any mundane or bored vibes immediately injecting the listener with a plethora of energy and vitality. This is a must-listen for anyone who loves the genre. The future of metalcore is looking very bright! INGESTED — ‘ASHES LIE STILL’
An absolute powerhouse of an album! Hailing from Manchester, UK, INGESTED has just recently come out with their new album ‘Ashes Lie Still’ and it’s just flat out amazing. The vocals are an array of growls, howls, and gutturals, meanwhile the riffs melodically collide with the beatdown drumming. It’s a fantastic way to spend forty-eight minutes. I highly recommend this for workout playlists to anyone who needs a proverbial kick in the ass and a boost of electricity! As of now, INGESTED is on tour with other juggernauts such as LORNA SHORE and ABORTED so you may be able to see them live! THE ARCHAIC EPIDEMIC — ‘CARNIVOROUS DIADEM’
Another case of sheer brutality and terror — I love it! THE ARCHAIC EPIDEMIC is a deathcore band from Fairfax, Virginia who’s been making music since 2021. Being a fairly new band doesn’t seem to deter them seeing as this is their second album already. ‘Carnivorous Diadem’ is a gratuitous example of rage gone right — the vocals alone are heavy as Hell. Beyond the vocal range, the rest of the band kills it with every song getting more and more riled up all the way to the finish for it’s climatic conclusion. THE ARCHAIC EPIDEMIC‘s sophomore album is a glorious beginning to what I’m sure will be a fruitful career in the deathcore scene. NITA STRAUSS — “THE WOLF YOU FEED” FT. ALISSA WHITE-GLUZ
This is what femme power is all about! NITA STRAUSS is more commonly known as the guitar player for ALICE COOPER but the Los Angeles, California native has made her name in so many other ways. From “playing WWE Superstar Shinsuke Nakamura’s entrance music at Wrestlemania” to having “played with R&B star Jermaine Jackson” NITA STRAUSS is a well-rounded, and well-traveled musician. Her latest collaboration was with ARCH ENEMY lead singer ALISSA WHITE-GLUZ with the song entitled “The Wolf You Feed”. For those of you who are new to NITA STRAUSS, yes she only plays guitar but damn can she make that fucker sing!
