Hey everyone! Today’s another gorgeous Saturday and you know what that means! It’s time for another Stoner Metal Saturday post for your night to wind down to. It’s officially fall here in LA — I wore a dress the other night and almost froze to death (just had to be cute). This week I’m looking for a good variety of stoner, doom, psych, sludge and fuzz! I need a whole medley of music to start off my weekend just right. With this full blood Taurus moon coming up on Tuesday, I’m catching a vibe! I’m gonna need a good warming up with some good music. Let’s see what we get!
FAETOOTH — ‘REMNANTS OF THE VESSEL’
Yessss!!!!! Personal favorite FAETOOTH has come out with a brand new album called ‘Remnants of the Vessel’! The Los Angeles, California fairy doom band produces music reminiscent of a dark fairytale. FAETOOTH‘s sophomore album possesses the raw feminine power that I’d expect from the band. As music often goes, their second album ‘Remnants of the Vessel’ is more experimental with their chords, melody, and tempo switching as they find their definitive style. Clean vocals and ferocious howls seem to be their sacred calling. I can see these songs in a Grimm Fairytale style TV show or movie. It’s dark but with flecks of light, and has a “evil witch in the woods” vibe to it. I’ll be dancing to this under the pale moonlight soon enough! BOG WIZARD — ‘7 ABOARD THE SCHACKEL SOUNDTRACK’
Another fan favorite! BOG WIZARD has just come out with their latest album ‘7 ABOARD THE SCHACKEL SOUNDTRACK’, and in their words it’s a “…soundtrack to the MÖRK BORG TTRPG module, 7 Aboard the Schackel! The soundtrack includes one 14+ minute long original instrumental track, and a whole pile of instrumental remixes of previously released tracks.” Now I may not be familiar with MÖRK BORG, but I don’t have to be to love this music. If you are familiar with it then this new BOG WIZARD will be a glorious treat for your ears and great background music for when you’re playing! BLACKBIRD HILL — ‘EMBERS IN THE DARK’
A new favorite! BLACKBIRD HILL is a dreamy stoner rock band from Bordeaux, France who released ‘Embers in the Dark’ just last month. With this being their second full length album, ‘Embers in the Dark’ brings you through a mystical wave of garage-style stoner music. This band is giving me indie rock energy and I’m loving it! BLACKBIRD HILL has been doling out music since 2018 and has really come into their own compared to their earlier works. ‘Embers in the Dark’ is a downhome, chill sort of rock that’s airy yet grounding at the same time. HOLZ — ‘SELF TITLED’
If you want something a little more on the wild side, this is the band for you! All the way from Kassel, Germany, HOLZ is a heavy stoner rock band who’s just released their debut album! This self titled EP is a record you can seriously headbang to. Seeing as this is HOLZ’ first album I can only imagine how heavy they’ll be on the next record! This is a heavy rock n’ roll type of album with some raging vocals and a deadly riff. It’s bands like this that start your night off with a burst of killer passion. LAZER BEAM — ‘LOST IN OBLIVION’
A darkwave banger! LAZER BEAM is a darkwave/shoegaze band from San Francisco, California who’s new album ‘Lost in Oblivion’ emits a “lazy daisy” vibe. The music is light overall, but it’s the random deep basslines that really curl into the ears like black smoke. Clean vocals and smouldering riffs combine to create a unique stony experience for the listener to get “lost” with. ‘Lost in Oblivion’ is a lazy day laying in a sun-filled meadow surrounded by little black flowers and bong smoke. ECHOLOT — ‘CURATIO’
Okay time to get heavy! If you’re aching for something on the sludgy side, this is what you’re looking for. ECHOLOT is a progressive doom metal band from Basel, Switzerland and they’ve unveiled their new album ‘Curatio’ just yesterday! The doom metal band experiments with vocals that range from mysterious/clean to blackened sludge which makes for a diversely progressive album. ECHOLOT has been coming out with music since 2019 and has since found their original sound. I don’t normally hear such an eclectic music in the doom/sludge genre of metal. SFEERVERZIEKER — ‘DEATH IS THE DESIRED ENDING’
This album feels like you’re drowning in the darkest part of the ocean — but you like it. SFEERVERZIEKER is a single-soul doom/sludge metal band from Beverwijk, Netherlands. Starting out this year SFEERVERZIEKER has released two EPs this year — the previous one being in January. ‘Death is the Desired Ending’ is a journey through violent crashes of riffs and haunting sludge vocals. I could imagine a pirate from the olden days listening to this while pillaging the seven seas with their crew. There’s a dark, driving force with this album that propels through the murky waters to meet an indulgent fate. GORTHON — ‘LIFE’S REGRET’
This is one decadently grimy album! GORTHON is a single-soul doom/sludge metal band from New Jersey who’s been releasing music since 2021. With ‘Life’s Regret’ being their second record, GORTHON really shows off their skillsets as a musician. The sludge leans more on the crust side of the genre rather than good old fashioned doom. Raspy growls, doomy chords, and muddy tempos make for a fantastic album. ‘Life’s Regret’ is simply something to level out your energy with after a long crazy day and some killer indica! ROSY FINCH — ‘SECONDA MORTE’
This is one hell of a band! ROSY FINCH is a shoegaze/sludge metal band from Alicante, Spain. Their new album ‘Seconda Morte’ is a divine embodiment of feminine essence and rage — the howls alone give me chills. Along with this we get a sweet scent of 90’s nostalgia with an alternative rock theme and vocals. With this new record, ROSY FINCH casts their mysterious aura through to the bone. Recording since 2013, ROSY FINCH has a history of enchanting metalheads from around the world — myself included. CHESTCRUSH — ‘APECHTHEIA’
SLUDGE-GASM! Deep, dark, and dirty — just how I like it. CHESTCRUSH is an extreme blackened death/doom metal band from Edinburgh, UK who’s been coming out with music since mid-pandemic in 2020. The new album ‘Apechtheia’ is a deadly EP that smashes you right in the face from beginning to end with blast beats and the sickest sludge vocals. Like the name, CHESTCRUSH delivers a pulverizing refrain and a hardcore tone that tests the extremities of mixing black metal vocals with death/doom chords.
