Hey!!! It’s almost my favorite day and I’m down for some music to celebrate! This week it’s all about Halloween and getting into the mood with different genres of metal. The nastier the riffs, the sicker the vocals the better. I’m looking for the hardest of hardcore shit. The festering goregrind and the violent slam — even some killer death metal. If it thrashes and slashes my eardrums it’s going on the list. No one will be spared — no survivors. It’s all a horror movie and this is the soundtrack.
EXHUMED — ‘TO THE DEAD’
Ready to get your face blasted off?! Good. Cause EXHUMED has released one hell of a new album! The death metal/goregrind band from San Jose, California (yayyy areaaaa) has been running wild since 1998 with thirteen albums in tow. Being from that era, you can hear the truest form of old school death metal riffs along with new age goregrind vocals and lyrics. ‘To The Dead’ is a tribute to the greatest age of death metal music and an offering of putrid, blood-gurgling gutturals to sacrifice our ears to. If you wanted something dirty, destructive and down right disgusting EXHUMED delivers it all and then some in ‘To The Dead’. INVIRULANT — ‘INDOMITABLE WORLDWIDE SLAMDEMIC’
THE SAVAGERY! Amazing debut album by brutal slamming death metal band from Phoenix, Arizona! INVIRULANT has relinquished a vibrantly brutal album titled ‘Indomitable Worldwide Slamdemic’. It’s unreal that this is their first release but here we have a classic example of an up-in-coming band that we need to look out for in the future. Every single song sounds more disease-ridden than the last (including the title). The vocals on this album are unreal. This is beyond your run-of-the-mill pig squealing or guttural howls, this is otherworldly. I HIGHLY recommend INVIRULANT to anyone who’s a huge fan of goregrind, and slam! OVERPOWER — ‘SELF TITLED’
A headbanger’s dream. OVERPOWER is a thrash metal band from Bristol, UK and their new self titled album ‘Overpower’ is nothing short of brilliant old school thrash metal. I feel like I’ve been transported to back in time to the 80’s — I can smell the cheap beer and hairspray already! The album has a dash of hardcore tones sprinkled throughout making it more of an upgraded thrash metal experience. OVERPOWER had the right energy when putting this EP together — it’s the perfect combination of powerful riffs and a hard hitting tempo that would challenge and delight any experienced headbanger. GRIEF RITUAL – ‘SPIRITUAL DISEASE’
A beautifully brutal album! GRIEF RITUAL‘s debut EP ‘Spiritual Disease’ has a melodic and dark aura that carries through each song. This blackened hardcore band from England, UK has barely scratched the surface of their potential — I can already hear that this band has much more to show us with their style of music. ‘Spiritual Disease’ is a bottomless pool of black, grungy waves with a cataclysmic ebb and flow. For this being their debut album I’m definitely going to keep my ears open for the next GRIEF RITUAL release! GENESTEALER — ‘SELF TITLED’
This shit is straight up raw!!! GENESTEALER is a crustpunk/grindcore band from San Diego, California and their self titled EP is just as raw and sickening as it gets. I can tell that their moshpits are pretty violent and epic — you cannot sit still to this! The second GENESTEALER album is fast, hard-hitting, and dripping with adrenaline (as expected). If you’re looking to have a solo-circle pit and/or wreck your living room while jamming out to the hollow pig squeals and deranged chords then this is the album for you! GOATWHORE — ‘ANGELS HUNG FROM THE ARCHES OF HEAVEN’
Pure, unbridled fury — this is what we were waiting for. GOATWHORE‘s long awaited album ‘Angels Hung From The Arches of Heaven’ is finally here! October would be the best time for this New Orleans, Louisiana death metal band to arrange such a deadly arch of musical talents — the very essence of “it gets better with age”. I can hear the years of expertise in twisting a riff or flipping a tempo and knocking the listener on their asses. GOATWHORE has been in the metal scene since 2006 and has only gotten more wickedly spectacular over the years. ‘Angels Hung From The Arches of Heaven’ is nothing short of powerfully arresting and diabolically gratifying. Let’s get ruthless! CAGED is a Hardcore/Edge Metal band from Bologna, Italy who are doing a killer job at engorging the ears in brutality. Their album ‘A Prison Built To Slowly Die’ is a relentless piece of work who’s screams vitalizes the senses and strips away the bullshit to reveal a world of blast beats and lyrical vengeance. This will be CAGED‘s fourth release since their debut in 2019 and they’ve got a couple shows in France lined up this coming November! CONQUEST — ‘DEATH REMAINS’
Kicking it into high gear from Blitar, Indonesia it’s CONQUEST with their new debut album ‘Death Remains’! A hardcore metal band coming straight at you with moshpit enticing riffs and nonstop beats that cut through to the core. CONQUEST may be new but they are definitely one to look out for in the future! There’s elements of old school 80’s thrash and punk that diversify this EP from most others. ‘Death Remains’ is a strong first impression with manic tempos and steadfast chords! DISTRUSTER — ‘SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS’
Let’s end it with some fuckin blast beats! DISTRUSTER is a D-Beat/Death metal band from Poland who’s just released their debut EP ‘Sic Semper Tyrannis’. If that Latin phrase sounds vaguely familiar it’s used commonly when talking about dictators and evil world leaders. The phrase sic semper tyrannis translates literally as “thus always to tyrants”. The idea is that a tyrant always meets a dire end, which is just and should be expected. With that in mind it gives a whole new meaning to the album — especially the song called “Alcoholic Piece of Shit” which sounds painfully relatable. The album is riddled with unhinged truths while blasting the listener in the face with abrasive drumming and vicious screams.
