Hello everyone! This week I’m not really looking for anything in particular — it seems as if I’m looking for a little bit of everything. From wavy instrumentals to psychedelic sludge, this week is going to be an eclectic variety of music. Next week we’re going to get into something especially special and themed so this week we’re going for anything that just sounds stellar! Let’s get into it…
VANDRER — ‘CONSUMATION OF THE AGES’
Doomy and spooky! This epic doomy masterpiece was created by VANDRER — an instrumental funeral doom band from Trondheim, Norway. I can’t help but to notice a sliver of black metal incorporated in the mix. ‘Consumation of the Ages’ came out last week and is one of five releases since their beginning in 2020. VANDRER‘s mysterious vibe can be felt throughout the record and really fills the listener with a sense of delightful dread. ANDUELA KEKU — ‘CLIMACTIC ROCK’
Loving this slow burn instrumental stoner rock album! ANDUELA KEKU is a psychedelic stoner rock band from Genoa, Italy (possibly). Not a whole lot of info on this band since there is no real social media for them, but what I can tell you is that this is a 3-piece psych-stoner band and you need to check them out! New album ‘Climactic Rock’ was just released this month and it’s a whole journey. The 2-song EP is a lengthy jam session that takes the listener for a ride through nearly 40 minutes of climb to a sweet mountain top of a glorious finish at the end. RED MESS — ‘BREATHTAKER’
If you’re looking for an album that’s more on the 2010’s alternative rock side with psychedelic riffs and a chill set of vocals this is the one for you! Rockin’ out of Londrina, Brazil, RED MESS is easily a hidden gem that’s been around since 2012. With ‘Breathtaker’ being their 5th release they’ve definitely reached a plateau of rock and psych sounds. The 3-piece band has a special way of colliding a gorgeous voice with a new style of alternative rock that has “smoking weed at Venice beach” energy. I’m very much looking forward to what RED MESS has coming up in the future and if they plan on touring in the US! COFFIN TORTURE — ‘BLENNOID’
Let’s kick it up to an eleven!! COFFIN TORTURE is the band you listen to when you want some death-sludge! Coming from Westminster, South Carolina, this is their second album called ‘Blennoid’ which is a blend of death, doom, heavy metal and sludge (mixed with some intergalactic sounds) . If you’re looking for something on the heavy side that sounds like a sludge metal alien abduction then this is the album for you! BLACK SHEEP WALL — ‘NO MATTER WHERE IT ENDS’
This amazingly sludgy album is called ‘No Matter Where It Ends’ by BLACK SHEEP WALL and it has it’s own unique style. BLACK SHEEP WALL is a post-metal/sludge band from Los Angeles, California and this is their second EP! Not too light, not too heavy, just right in the middle between sludge with vocals that almost howl in some places, with an overlay of doom and experimental metal. The EP gets a little Mad Max in the middle with it’s droning metallic sounds (you’ll see what I mean).
