ALBUM REVIEW ALBUMS DROPPED THIS WEEK MUSIC NEWS! NEW RELEASES STONER METAL SATURDAY!

STONER METAL SATURDAY — SIMMERING IN MY SENSES (OCTOBER 15, 2022)

Hey everyone! Today is another Stoner Metal Saturday and I’m lining up a variety of awesome albums for you this weekend! Not much else to say except that I’m excited for you all to hear these records and find a new band that you love. So let’s get right into it!

TREEBEARD — ‘NOSTALGIA’

This album is dark, mysterious, and hazy — a very pleasing mixture of atmospheres. TREEBEARD is an ambient/post-metal band from Melbourne, Australia who’s album ‘Nostalgia’ was released back in 2021 remains to be a fantastic array of songs. I love how deeply moody each song is with it’s own tale of woe or euphoria — and sometimes it’s a bit of both. Unbelievably, this is their first release as a band (hopefully a second will come soon). Check out the whimsically dark album ‘Nostalgia’ by TREEBEARD below and don’t forget to head to their Bandcamp page to purchase!

GRIN — ‘PHANTOM KNOCKS’

GRIN IS BACK!! I’m super excited to see GRIN return with their third album ‘Phantom Knocks’ which was released just yesterday. From Berlin, Germany, this band has been known to be on the heavy sludge side. ‘Phantom Knocks’ starts with a rapturous sound, middles with their classic heavy-sludge chords, and ends with a light, flowy harmony. It’s very different and evolved from their last album ‘Transcendent Blades’ which makes for an exceptional third act in their collected works. Check out the new album ‘Phantom Knocks’ by GRIN below and get yourself a copy from their Bandcamp page here!

METHUSELIAN — ‘BEYOND HUMAN’

If you’re looking for something gloomy and intense then this is the album for you! METHUSELIAN is an atmospheric sludge metal band from Israel who’s new — and first album — ‘Beyond Human’ is a cavernous journey. This delicious record is filled with low drone vocals and versatile tempos that flip and switch at will. METHUSELIAN gives us a murky vibe with a huge heaping pile of sludge, dredging for three interminable songs. Listen to ‘Beyond Human’ below and check out the official Bandcamp page to purchase the album!

THE SCREECH BOYS — ‘LOVE… SURF… DRACULA!’

This psychedelic surf-doom band is known as THE SCREECH BOYS! From Kingsport, Tennessee, ‘Love… Surf… DRACULA!’ will be their third album release this year. The enigmatic energy of this album transports the listener to a vibrant world of 1950’s nostalgia triaged with new-wave surf, and dreamy doom. ‘Love… Surf… DRACULA!’ is the perfect Halloween album for anyone who loves stoner rock and surf (highly recommend for all upcoming Halloween parties). THE SCREECH BOYS has a robust mellow drone sound with a velvety, old-fashioned style finish. Check out the new album below and listen to more of their music on the official Bandcamp page.

WEEDEVIL — “THE RETURN”

Psychedelic stoner/doom band WEEDEVIL makes their debut with their new album ‘The Return’! Heavier still is their title-track with the rumbling thunderous riffs and kaleidoscopic sounds near the end. From São Paulo, Brazil, WEEDEVIL possesses a blackened nature with a sweet disposition for fuzzy melodies. “The Return” is a perfect introduction to the female-vocalized band and their brand new EP! Check out the new song below and make sure to catch the rest of their album on the official Bandcamp page!

NEGATIVE CONCEPT — ‘UNWELCOME’

Raspy vocals and chords ranging from melodic to ghastly, this grunge-sludge/stoner rock band comes from Paris, France. NEGATIVE CONCEPT has released their second album of the year ‘Unwelcome’ just yesterday and it’s a rollercoaster of all things sludge, stoner, and doom. The Parisian four-piece has a unique balance of harsh, heavy vocals and a motley of themes for each song. Listen to NEGATIVE CONCEPT below and be sure to hit up their official Bandcamp to purchase the new ‘Unwelcome’ album!

COURE — ‘INVERSUM NEMA’

If you’re looking for something different — like if the show ‘Twin Peaks’ had doom metal mixed in — then this is the album for you! I’ve never heard of such a thing but doom-jazz is something I can really get into. COURE is a fairly new band from Barcelona, Spain that experiments with trumpet, and saxobass sounds. With their second album ‘Inversum Nema’, they seem to have a distinctive talent to combine two very different genres of music. The “2am in Chicago” trumpet swimming in decadent pools of doom makes for an exceptionally stellar record. Listen to the new album ‘Inversum Nema’ by COURE below and be sure to show your support on their Bandcamp page!

SKY PIG — ‘IT THRIVES IN DARKNESS’

Ohhh howls of Hell! SKY PIG is a doom/sludge band from Sacramento, California (ayyyyeeee! Sactown in the house). ‘It Thrives In Darkness’ is the third album from them and it brings forth a dredging element that could be best described as a violent, droning dance between fire and brimstone. The vocals for SKY PIG feel enveloped with rage, yet blurred with moments of trippy, psychedelic tones. Listen to ‘It Thrives In Darkness’ below by SKY PIG and be sure to show your support by heading to their Bandcamp page!
