Hello my lovelies! It’s been a minute! I had to go on a hiatus (unplanned and devastating) but I’m back with some new music for ya! This weekend we’ll be having a beautiful fiery full moon in Aries! This is the perfect time to get some fire under that ass and get to work! Aries is not known for having any patience so there’s no time to waste. I’ll be putting together a special playlist for you to get into your rituals and conjure up some energy for the next couple of weeks!

CHEST ROCKWELL — ‘MENTIS OCULI‘

This album is giving me some deep chills! CHEST ROCKWELL is a Neo-Prog/Doom metal band from Bowling Green, Kentucky that started in 2004. Their latest release entitled ‘Mentis Oculi’ (meaning “a mind’s eye”) is a spacey-prog gem amongst rubble. With it’s doomy baseline and an affinity for the dark, sour notes it gives a witchy vibe with a fiery melody — I could dance to this entire album. My favorite track would definitely have to be “Homunculus” — vibrantly dark, and delicious. The album has a beautiful beginning and an epic end — what else could I ask for? HURACÁN — ‘WE ARE VERY HAPPY‘

If you have an enormous amount of energy already, this is the proper album for you! HURACÁN is a psych/sludge/stoner band from Ghent, Belgium! ‘We Are Very Happy’ is a brilliant combination of hollowed screams and psychedelic tidal waves of rhythm. The punk-rock energy from start to finish is just insane and it doesn’t really slow down at all. Also there’s a “sexy guitar solo” warning at the end of “Still There” (#8). The Belgian band HURACÁN has been making music since 2015 — this being their third album — and are signed to DUNK RECORDS. ACID WITCH — ‘ROT AMONG US’

Looking for something divinely wicked? Look no further! Detroit, Michigan’s ACID WITCH has got you covered with their latest album ‘Rot Among Us’! Very much brimming with a hardcore Dungeons and Dragons vibe, this is the perfect album for anyone who loves death metal with a doomy twist. I’m really digging the different voices they use for “witchy dialogue” so it’s more of a creepy fairytale that’s being told rather than just a song. Honestly I would pay to hear them narrate dark fairytales on Spotify (or wherever). The vocals on this album range from shrill witch to death metal ogre. ACID WITCH is giving us an eclectic cast of characters and a prism of different death/doom-style melodies — there might be a bit of thrash in there as well. ‘Rot Among Us’ is a necessary album for anyone who’s into death metal! BAARDVADER — ‘FOOLISH FIRES’

Another glorious album for the list! BAARDVADER is a three-piece hard fuzzrock band from The Hauge, Netherlands who’s just released their third album entitled ‘Foolish Fires’. The tracks are a little grungy with an easy-going tempo — easily cohesive with the 90’s Seattle scene. Favorite track has got to be “Blinded Out” — you can really hear what I mean in this song. ‘Foolish Fires’ is some serious hair swinging music and would be a perfect pick to get your energy rising and keep it high. Right now BAARDVADER has some dates booked, but only in the Netherlands! GRÄNSLANDET/ALTERI — SPLIT ALBUM

Ohh two-for-one! We’ve got a split album here! GRÄNSLANDET (Kristinehamn, Sweden) and ALTERI (Cologne, Germany) came together for this d-beat/sludge/crusty mix. This would be both band’s third album release and is “name your price” on both band’s Bandcamp pages. While GRÄNSLANDET has a faster pace with punk-like drumming, ALTERI is slower and more on the crust/black/sludge side. The only thing is I wish it was longer — it’s 20:55. But aside from that it’s a great album to listen to (most likely on repeat)! Check out their split album below and don’t forget to purchase it on Bandcamp (either one). It’s “name your price”, but don’t be stingy! At the least donate $6.66 — or some other “angel number” (haha)!

SECOND-HAND APES — ‘PYRE’

This incredible piece of work comes from Joensuu, Finland with a band called SECOND-HAND APES. ‘Pyre’ would be their third album to date (there’s a real theme going on here haha!) and it’s just chalk full of magic! My favorite song would have to be “Pisces” — mystical, and intense. I’m biased since I am a Pisces, I just skipped right to it! The album ‘Pyre’ as a whole is a glorious find — fuzz mixed with heavy psych is never a bad combination of genres. SECOND-HAND APES has a deep, slow tempo with smoldering riffs that burn each track like flying embers in the wind. I can see myself getting very lit with some indica and losing myself to the entire album. DEADLY VIPERS — ‘LOW CITY DRONE‘

Ohhhh I’m in trouble. You know I had to save my favorite for last! I’m in actual LOVE with this album! Immediately blasted me with some lady-killer riffs — this would make my “albums I need strippers to use” playlist easily. The DJ could play the wrong song and it’d still be the right one. ‘Low City Drone’ is the new album by DEADLY VIPERS — a hard fuzz-rock band from Cabestany, France. Imagine if Axl Rose did fuzz/stoner rock instead of hard rock back in the 80’s — the vocals are just immaculate. It looks like this is their third album and the first one as a signed band with FUZZORAMA RECORDS (aww congrats dudes!). I’m looking forward to what else DEADLY VIPERS has in store over the next few years, maybe a world tour? In the meantime ‘Lone City Drone’ will be enough, as well as their other two albums on their personal Bandcamp Page.
