Hey everyone! If you don’t know I’m obsessed with horror movies and I love the 90’s. So of course I’m very familiar with the Scream saga from start to finish. Tonight I was fortunate enough to get a ticket to Scream 5‘s premiere with a live Q&A after the film. I’m here to say that this film will be replaying in my head for days as I remember some of the more jarring scenes of the film. There’s too many to list but I can only give out a good handful before I begin to ruin it so I’ll cut it down to a good five things to say about the new Scream film! Let’s get into it!
#5: ORIGINAL CHARACTERS RETURN!
In this movie there’s going to be some verrry familiar faces throughout the film. From callbacks to full blown characters, even some we may have forgotten about! This movie is haunted by the past even more so than the other films!
#4: HOMAGE TO THE PAST
The past is never at rest! This film dips into and even remixes scenes from the previous films a few good times giving us some killer moments throughout the film. I really loved reliving some of the classic scenes — and I know you will too!
#3: KILLER TECHNOLOGY
Like the fourth movie, this one uses a variety of technology to terrorize the victims and tantalize the audience. Makes you want to rethink what we all use in everyday life to keep us and our loved ones safe — is it really safe? User beware!
#2: FEMALE POWER
Nothing but pure strength from these two classic “final girls” — even more so in this film than the others! They catch wind of a new killer in Woodsboro and show up without hesitation. No hiding, just badass chicks taking care of business.
#1: LGBTQ+ VISIBILITY!
I just have to say that I’m really glad that we have some LGBTQ+ visibility in this film! I mean, in the fourth Scream film (*spoiler alert*) one of the characters — Robbie Mercer — exclaimed that he was gay, but it was to get out of being brutally stabbed to death. So I’m not sure if he really was gay or was trying to use “horror movie rules” to live. Either way, this movie has a much better way of revealing a gay character!
BONUS: THE WES CRAVEN HOMAGE
There’s a character in this movie who’s name is Wes Hicks (Judy Hicks’ son) played by Dylan Minnette — clearly as a homage to the late and great Wes Craven. I thought that was a sweet little thing that they did ❤
FINAL CHAPTER… ?
If you’ve been tiptoeing around the idea of watching this movie I highly recommend it! It’s a perfect addition to the franchise and it’s left me wanting more! It’s unclear whether or not another installment is in store, but the ending left some wiggle room for a new chapter to be written! I’m down for a Scream 6, and I know I’m not the only one!
