ALBUM REVIEW ALBUMS DROPPED THIS WEEK MFKN-METAL MONDAY! MUSIC NEWS! NEW RELEASES UPCOMING RELEASES

MFKN METAL MONDAY — FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS (1/10/2022)

Hey everyone! I don’t know about y’all but I already feel worn the hell out in 2022. SIDNEY POITIER DIED? BOB SAGET DIED?! I’m confused, and scared of 2022 already, and holding onto my newfound New Year’s Resolutions as tightly as I can. In honor of Sidney, Bob, Betty, this year being kinda weird from the jump, and because we’re still reeling from 2021, let’s just fucking rage. This is gonna be nonstop, batshit crazy, brutal slam, grindcore, murdercore shit — so get ready. Full volume at your own fucking risk.

BURNED IN EFFIGY — “DOOMSAYER”

FB | IG | BANDCAMP

I could tell by the GHOUL shirt in the video that this band was gonna be legit. BURNED IN EFFIGY is a melodic death metal band from Chicago, Illinois. The song below “Doomsayer” is a new release from their upcoming sophomore album ‘Rex Mortem’ which is coming out January 28th, 2022. Super killin’ it with the vocal range and the guitar solo in the middle really makes the song for me. You can sneak a listen to another track from their unreleased album called “Nightfall” on BURNED IN EFFIGY‘s Bandcamp page! But before that, take a look at their music video for “Doomsayer” below!

DECEIVING THE SPECTRE — “CARRIED BY NONE”

FB | IG | SPOTIFY

Another banger for the books! DECEIVING THE SPECTRE is a grunge/deathcore band coming out of Franklin, Ohio with their first song of the year called “Carried By None”. No news on an album yet, but hope is pending. Right now as far as I can tell this is a newer band coming into the scene back in 2020 with the EP ‘You Did It To Yourself’ (which is available to stream on Spotify). Please enjoy this awesome new band and get to know DECEIVING THE SPECTRE via their social media platforms!

MINES OF MORIA — ‘KHAZAD-DÛM’

FB | BANDCAMP

MINES OF MORIA is a technical death metal band with members from Austria, the US, and Canada. They’ve been slowly releasing songs since August of 2021 and have finally dropped the entire first album ‘Khazad-Dûm’. I don’t normally post too much tech-death (I don’t know, at some point if they go too far — too deep into their shit, it just sounds like angry-robo-anal and I just can’t… call me weird… idgaf) but this band sounds like they’ve got it all worked out. Listen to MINESOF MORIA‘s debut album ‘KHAZAD-DÛM’ below and be sure to hit up their Bandcamp page to purchase!

COLD BLOODED MURDER — “PRODIGAL SON”

FB | IG | BANDCAMP

This song was released mid 2021 last year and I know what you’re thinking “well then what the hell is it doing here?”. Shut up and listen. Literally — go click the video. I fuckin love this band holy shit! COLD BLOODED MURDER is a (you guessed it) murdercore band from Russia (with hate). “Prodigal Son” was from their ‘XEF’ album which came out August 30, 2021. The masks are very Slipknot-y but the music is a different breed — hopefully they’re cooking up some new songs for this year. I’m not sure if I’ve ever featured murdercore on here before — but I know I’ll remember now. Check out COLD BLOODED MURDER‘s music video for “Prodigal Son” below and hit up their social medias for more info!

ROMANTIST — “SILENCE”

FB | IG | WEBSITE

“Silence” is anything but silent — this is how you get a pit going. ROMANTIST, the beatdown/metalcore band from Viva Las Vegas, Nevada, has gives us a new song to mosh to (and not a moment too soon). I’ve been wanting to check out the Vegas scene for a minute (idea!!) and this band is giving me another great excuse to do just that. No news on the album that’s coming up but I’ll keep everyone posted on that. Check out this new band ROMANTIST and their gut wrenching vocals below!!

GORILLA PANIK — “DEAD SHALL RISE” (TERRORIZER COVER)

FB | BANDCAMP

Oldenburg, Germany’s goregrind band GORILLA PANIK is giving us brutal vibes with this sick ass cover of TERRORIZER‘s song called “Dead Shall Rise”. This fresh new cover is exactly what I need to start off this week — really activates the “warrior mode” we all need right now. Another recently dropped song of theirs is entitled “Alcohol” (sounds promising) and is available to stream and download on their Bandcamp page. Definitely a band I would listen to after a long ass thankless day — retail or food service workers would appreciate the pain and anguish running through their speakers here. Check out GORILLA PANIK below and hit up their social media accounts!

CRYPTOPHTHALMOS — ‘DEMO II’

BANDCAMP

More grind! CRYPTOPHTHALMOS is a two-piece mince/gore band with one member from Baltimore and the other is in Chicago. The music is just dirty, grimy grind and the names of these songs make me wish I had paid more attention in science class (if my teacher didn’t look like a shaved bird, maybe I would have?). ‘DEMO II’ is a full bodied grindgore album — which lasts a little over ten minutes, but gives out enough sickening energy with lasting after effects. At some parts yes, it sounds like a corpse coming to life, but that’s the point right? Check out this killer band CRYPTOPHTHALMOS‘DEMO II’ album below and be sure to show them some love on their official Bandcamp site!

SKULLBASHER — ‘SELF TITLED’

IG | BANDCAMP

Another debut album for the list! SKULLBASHER is a crust metal band from İzmir, Turkey and they’ve released this self titled album back in December of last year. A little late with finding it, but holy shit what a find! I don’t come across a lot of crust metal bands, they usually swing over to the sludge side of metal so it’s more slowed down. There is no slowing down here — it’s all raging right in your face. And of course being their first album I’m looking forward to more music from this band! This one is for all the crust punks who love to pit! Check out SKULLBASHER below and show your support on their Bandcamp/social media page!

VILE SPECIES — ‘DEMO 2022’

FB | BANDCAMP

DEMO ALERT! I love getting to these demos and checking out newly formed bands and watching them grow. VILE SPECIES has made to my watch list for sure! All rage, all four songs — dig it. This is the latest installment released by the grind band from Athens, Greece. ‘DEMO 2022’ may be less than four minutes long, but it’ll be the most chaotically amazing four minutes of your day! Perfect for background music to your “fuck this fucking job” smoke break. Check out VILE SPECIES below and buy this album on their Bandcamp page!

GENERAL SURGERY — ‘A LEGENDARY DEATH’

FB | IG | BANDCAMP

Last but certainly not least is this group called GENERAL SURGERY who’s a goregrind band from Stockholm, Sweden. They’ve been around since the late 80’s but had never stopped releasing music. Here we have ‘A Legendary Death’ — a solid goregrind album that has a bit of thrash in there. GENERAL SURGERY‘s album ‘A Legendary Death’ includes two cover songs — “Face of Evil” (Nihilist cover) and “From the Anatomical Deeps” (Dead Infection cover), my favorite being “Face of Evil”. This is a classic moshpit album and I have no complaints, only compliments. Check out ‘A Legendary Death’ below and hit up their Bandcamp page for purchasing options!
