Hey everyone! Hope your first week of the new year is going well! I didn’t really make any “new year’s resolutions” (maybe I should?) but I feel like I’m on target regardless. This week is gonna be double-packed! I would like to keep it at this pace — having ten instead of five bands. Hopefully it’s not overwhelming, more importantly I hope you dig what I’ve picked out this week! Let’s get going!
BONG WIZARD — ‘VULGAR DISPLAY OF FLOWER’
Of COURSE I put this album on here first — what are ya, nuts? BONG WIZARD is a doom metal band from none other than Los Angeles, California (what’s up neighbors!). ‘VULGAR DISPLAY OF FLOWER’ is a gorgeous example of doom metal at it’s core — slow, dark, perfect for indica highs. This album is a perfect throw on for starting your day or coming home to chill out at night (as long as you’re smoking something fiyahhh!!!). Hopefully I can see this band play live soon! Check out BONG WIZARD‘s new album ‘VULGAR DISPLAY OF FLOWER’ below and definitely show your support by heading over to their Bandcamp page!
CELLADOOR — ‘WETIKO’
SUPER 90’s VIBE! Single soul band from Manchester, UK , CELLADOOR has a particular way of creeping up on you with it’s darkened melodies. ‘WETIKO’ is a grunge/doom album that’s heavy on the 90’s aesthetic (with it’s own twist of course). It has it’s up-tempo moments along with some sluggish downward grunge spirals. It’s kind of like if Kurt Cobain had a side project no one knew about. As it’s band’s fourteenth release I’m intrigued to do a deep dive into CELLADOOR‘s discography! Listen to ‘WETIKO’ below and get into their full music history with Bandcamp!
LENGUAJE DE VÍBORAS — ‘ASCENSIÓN’
Fast or slow paced, either way this band can fuckin play. Coming from Córdoba, Argentina, LENGUAJE DE VÍBORAS is a hardcore punk/stoner rock/doom metal band that’s been thrashing around since 2018. With their latest album release just yesterday ‘ASCENSIÓN’ made it to my list instantly. I like how they can bring the same style of violent energy whether they’re playing at a punk or doom metal pace. ‘ASCENSIÓN’ is one of those albums I put on when I’m in a deep dark mood but I don’t want to get out of it just yet — something about it makes me want to sit and just marinate in my emotions before finally overcoming them. LENGUAJE DE VÍBORAS knows how to vibe. Listen to their new album below and get into their official Bandcamp page for more amazing music!
TIGERS ON OPIUM — ‘503.420.6669 VOL.2’
Not gonna lie — when I first heard this band’s name I thought “ohhhh that’s not good, let’s play it!”. TIGERS ON OPIUM is a great band, and luckily doesn’t sound like a bunch of tigers tripping the fuck out! And yes, I called the phone number — it’s not actually connected (darn!). The new album ‘503.420.6669 VOL.2’ is a stoner jam album with colorful guitar riffs and a playful beat. The whole album is giving me late 70’s vintage vibes with the rock and roll aspects of tempo and vocals. Definitely a good album for the old heads and anyone into old school rock and roll with some stoner rock twists. Check out TIGERS ON OPIUM below and don’t forget to listen to more of their music on the official Bandcamp!
VOID ODYSSEY — ‘SELF TITLED’
I’m all about the vibes and this one is surrounding me with a dark, chilling essence. VOID ODYSSEY has spoken with their debut EP. Slow and very deliberate with it’s tempo with no vocals whatsoever — it’s perfect for zoning the hell out for a deep meditation when you need to. This is another new band but their debut self-titled EP makes me want much more from them in the future! Get into this dark forest with me and listen to VOID ODYSSEY below! And don’t rush out before heading to their Bandcamp account!
FERNANDEF — ‘MAGNETIC FABERGÉ’
Spacey, chill vibes with this one! Psych rock band from Kielce, Poland called FERNANDEF has really gotten to me with this one — it’s like being high without getting high yet. ‘MAGNETIC FABERGÉ’ was released earlier this week and is a gorgeous album for anyone who just wants a vacation from reality with a nice, fat joint. This band FERNANDEF is fairly new, having only released a demo EP April of 2020. I’ll be looking for their work in the future (especially when I need a cheap and fast getaway). Listen to the new music from ‘MAGNETIC FABERGÉ’ below and hit up their Bandcamp page for more!
BROCKEN — “ROGYAPA“
Almost twenty-three whole minutes of nothing but chill vibes — BROCKEN‘s “ROGYAPA” is one single song of stoner rock/mellow doom. Coming from Freiburg, Germany this four-piece band has a more level approach to the genre. BROCKEN takes you on a journey with this one song — the “where” depends on your personal imagination (and the bud you’re smoking on). Listen to their song “ROGYAPA” below for your stoner quest! And don’t forget to check out their Bandcamp page!
AEQUOREA — ‘DIM’
Another lovely addition with the list would be this blackened atmospheric doom/post-metal band called AEQUOREA from Nevada City, California. Last night they came in hot with their second album ‘Dim’. Since it’s release, ‘Dim’ has been giving away a brilliant mixture of black metal and doom (or witchy doom as I like to call it sometimes). You can check out their work on the official Bandcamp website and don’t forget to listen to AEQUOREA below!
WORSHIP — ‘MANY MASTERS’
This album sounds like it could conjure a moshpit — WORSHIP is a doom/sludge, post metal/hardcore band straight out of Salinas, California. They’ve been around for a bit, but ‘Many Masters’ just came out yesterday! Definitely more on the hardcore side of metal, maybe a bit of post-punk in there too. Overall it’s all adrenaline from one end of the EP to the other. Highly recommended for thrashers who like doom/sludgey stuff as well as punk. Listen to ‘Many Masters’ below and be sure to check out WORSHIP on their official Bandcamp page!
NEGATIVE SLUG — ‘RATBAG’
As per usual, I’m ending the list with a more hardcore sound. NEGATIVE SLUG is a sludge/doom metal band from Zagreb, Croatia. Formed in 2015, NEGATIVE SLUG has been leaving a trail of singles and EPs on their Bandcamp and other social media platforms. ‘RATBAG’ builds on a thrilling genre of sludgecore metal — dark, raspy, angry vocals and garage-punk like instrumentals. Check out this badass new album ‘RATBAG’ below, and don’t forget to get on their Bandcamp page!
