Holy shit you guys… crazy month, crazy things going on. Lots of new developments but right now I just want to chill out to some badass new music from the stoner/doom metal collection online! I hope y’all are doing alright! It’s been a minute and I want to thank everyone for sending me your love and support. Seriously means a lot. I had to come back this week cause I missed the zine so much and I miss interacting with you guys! Let’s get this shit started!
KING BUFFALO — ‘THE BURDEN OF RESTLESSNESS’
Here to reignite the vibes is KING BUFFALO — a kick ass psychedelic rock band from Rochester, New, York. This trippy trio has been making music for almost 10 years now and has been steadily releasing music. One of their latest albums was during a heavy time in quarantine called ‘DEAD STAR’ and is just another example of their talent. This album, ‘The Burden Of Restlessness’ is a mixture of little psychedelic tidbits that I’ve heard in other genres (pop, indie, techno) but all encompassed by the dominant sound of rock/metal. Honestly reminds me of GORILLAZ mixed with TOOL because of the psych/metal side (if you’re a fan of them you know what I mean, esp with the song “The Knocks”). This album is worth a listen or two after a couple strong indica puffs — just relax and enjoy the ride. RED FANG — ‘ARROWS’
I can already smell the sweat and stale beer emanating from the mosh pit. True to form the Portland, Oregon band known as RED FANG doesn’t disappoint with this brand new album called ‘ARROWS’. Comes with dark psychedelic sounds and heavy rock influences — just how I like it. The album gives off an energy of rage, power, and adrenaline all intertwined with beautiful guitar riffs, switched up tempos, and some melodic undertones. This one feels like it’s more for the sativa smokers — the ones who like to head bang and thrash while getting super fucking lit. If you haven’t seen this band live before, everyone I know highly, highly recommends it. I haven’t myself (*shakes fist at the heavens*), but sooner or later I’ll be photographing them on stage! DISTILLED TONGUES — ‘SELF TITLED’
NEW BAND ALERT! Ayeee! DISTILLED TONGUES is a heavy/psych/stoner rock band from Detroit, Michigan! Like all bands must, these guys have put everything including the kitchen sink into this EP and it was an amazing outcome. Their self titled EP is a well rounded introduction to DISTILLED TOUNGUES‘ southern bluesy vibe mixed with some heavy psych style. I highly suggest you check out their album below and give them a follow on their social media! Don’t forget to purchase the album via Band Camp!
HIRKUM — “SCREAMING SKULL”
A savage band has entered the chat! HIRKUM is a heavy psych/stoner/black metal from Mexico! This is their second single they’ve released called “Screaming Skull” (no EP yet!). Earlier this year in January HIRKUM came out with their first song “Anhedonia”, which introduced the world to this psychedelic ferocity. “Screaming Skull” is an apt title for this song — relentless, jarring, and fucking wicked.
