Hey my witchy loves! Glad to be back from my awkward injury (see social media for details). It’s about to be Pisces season tomorrow! Not a Pisces Moon yet, but I’m very excited regardless. This Witchy Shit Playlist is for all of my fellow Pisceans! Hopefully your birthdays are filled with love and some kind of adventure (mine’s all planned out already). So without any further delay let’s see who made this carefully picked list of bands! But first…
What To Do Around This Time:
Since we are still in the New Aquarius Moon phase, thinking about the new things you wish to pursue this year may be a good idea. Write them down, plan it out. I know that we’re dreamers, but it’s your hands that make your dreams a reality. But right now, we can dream up something beautiful to accomplish, or an achievement worth the extra effort. Take some time to visualize it all, really see yourself doing the things you intend to accomplish. Meditate on that, and put in the work.
WARLUNG — “SUN EATER”
Gorgeous wavy song from WARLUNG — a heavy psych band from Houston, Texas. “Sun Eater” is a track off of their latest album called ‘Optical Delusions’ via Heavy Psych Sounds Records. This is a perfect way to start off the Pisces season with! Beautifully chill and obviously worth a listen — WARLUNG has been recording tracks for a while now! With this being their third release, I can only imagine what they’ll sound like in the future! SLUGWEED — ‘ORIGINAL CHRYSANTHEMUM’
Another one to get lost inside of. SLUGWEED has a new full album out called ‘Original Chrysanthemum’. For those of you new to SLUGWEED, they are a single-soul sludge/post-metal band from Bristol, New Hampshire that’s been releasing music since 420 of 2020. Highly creative, highly talented individual right here. Beautiful music to dream off about your life plans to. I highly, highly recommend you go through his discography on Band Camp. There’s a lot of music, but it’s worth checking out for sure. First, listen to his ‘Original Chrysanthemum’ album below, and then head over to the Band Camp for all of the musical bliss and stoner sounds you can want (which you can buy in bulk for less than $30).
DOZER — ‘VULTURES’
How about something more on the side of rock n roll? DOZER is a heavy psych band from Sweden that’s just come out with their album ‘Vultures’ via Heavy Psych Sounds Records. This is the kind of album I’d dance around to conjuring magic. ‘Vultures’ brings that sexy chaotic vibe by way of some serious electric guitar playing. This album was actually recorded in the mid-2000’s but it’s been re-released for the first time on vinyl and digipak with an extra song! INDICA BLUES — “COSMIC NIHILISM”
Slow and stellar, just how I like it. INDICA BLUES has released a new song called “COSMIC NIHILISM” (perfect title) from their brand new album called ‘We Are Doomed’. INDICA BLUES is a psychedelic doom band from Oxford, UK who play with interstellar sounds and pure instrumental technique. Still more of a rock n’ roll sound with this one, but more heightened as its slowed down to a sexy crawl. Being their fourth release, I feel like they have definitely gotten the hang of their own unique style. You can check out their new song “COSMIC NIHILISM” (while smoking a fat indica blunt of course) below, and head on down to their Band Camp to buy their album!
BLACK MAGIC RITES — ‘PSYCHOCOVEN’
Where’s the heavy eh? HERE it is! BLACK MAGIC RITES is an old school doom/sludge metal band from Silesia, Poland. Although this album is from 2019, it still kicks a good amount of ass. ‘PSYCHOCOVEN’ is a crazy name but it fits perfectly as the rest of the album has the same dark, sludgy feeling what you just want to conjure to. This being their first release, I can’t wait for more of these kinds of tracks. BLACK MAGIC RITES really takes a cue or two from the legends we know as BLACK SABBATH and ELECTRIC WIZARD but defines themselves as their own sound. DEFTONES — “CHERRY WAVES”
Do I need to write anything here, or…? DEFTONES is the shit. Coming out of Sacramento, California (my hometown too), they’ve outdone themselves with this song. Definitely different from the usual, I’d use this song for any type of water-based ritual, spell work background music, or after smoking a vast amount of Blue Dream. “Cherry Waves” is the song I break out in when I’m not paying attention, deliriously overheated/tired, or if I’m too stoned. The entire album (‘Saturday Night Wrist’) is a must-listen for anyone looking for some melodic DEFTONES energy. “Cherry Waves” is one of the songs that changed the way they played, and of course some people have an issue with it (suck it), but the real fans love anything they do. Listen to this masterpiece below and be sure you have this on vinyl/CD etc; this is a must-have album.
