Another Saturday, another week in quarantine. Anyone losing their shit yet? I’m having trouble keeping up on that day it is. Things are preeeetty crazy right now — good thing we have music! All of these submissions were from Facebook group members who submitted their band’s music (the right way haha!) for this week’s Stoner Metal Saturday article. If you’re in a band and looking to be featured as well just click the linked text above and find out how to properly send me your music! Let’s get this shit started!
LUNA XIII – “STRANGER”
Another one for the Witchy Playlist! Not to be confused with the synth-metal band LUNA 13 from LA (who I’ve seen live and… uh… big yikes). THIS metal band is fucking good. Slow, ambient beginnings fluidly flowing with dark, ethereal tones. “Stranger” is the #3 track off their Humility record (favorite song from the album). Lead vox + guitar/amazing Queer Woman Eliza says Luna XIII draws their influences from “ambient drone, sludge, stoner & doom metal, shoegaze, soundscapes and grunge”. You can definitely hear the mixture of these different genres with each song. “We are now beginning the process of recording a single we hope to release later this year.”

BLUE DREAM – VOLUME BLUE
When I saw that my favorite strain of weed was a band… I HAD to check them out. And oh my Goddess! Blue Dream is a Chi-town band with an experimental flare to their music. These are some awesome psych surfer sounds. Kind of like the Beach Boys’ grandsons got together, smoked a bunch of weed, and started playing. I dig how it can be chill and upbeat on one track and then a little more rock n’ roll in others all dipping with this “sweet as honey” set of vocals.
You can check out their other album and purchase through their BandCamp!
SUN BELOW – BLACK VOLUME III
Let’s get darker and a little creepy! This Toronto trio sent me their album via email and I just love it! The music is a perfect combination between heavy stoner rock, and some light creepy doom. I would definitely love to see this band play live (you know, after this whole crisis is over)! I’ve been smoking a lot of pot as of late (wonder why…) — this is great music for my stoner metalheads. This one might even go in the Witchy Playlist too!

CHILDREN OF ATOM – “RADIATION BLUES”
This song is a serious teeth-kicker… this whole band is! Psyfi-Rock band Children of Atom are a lot different from the entries I normally get, which is great (reeeeaaally woke me up you guys hahaha!). “Radiation Blues” is a newly released song from the band and really encompasses the band’s full aesthetic — loud as fuck. Speaking of “fuck”… apparently they have their own buttplugs — never seen that on a merch table. I definitely want one hahaha! No idea what my “size” is… just pick one at random and I’ll see what I can do. If it’s crazy big it becomes “Home Decor: BDSM Edition” hahaha!
You can listen to their music and purchase here on their BandCamp page!
FRIENDSHIP COMMANDERS – “THE ENEMY I KNOW”
If there’s one thing that I love, it’s a female vocalist with some powerhouse style. Friendship Commanders from Nashville, TN is a new band to me, but definitely on my playlist. Since we’re all awake now, this is the best time to go through their discography. This is Stoner Rock with a huge emphasis on “ROCK YOUR FACE OFF”. I’m really into the slow, deep groove of the guitars — matches the intensity of the singer for sure! “The Enemy I Know” is only the tip of the iceberg seeing as it’s just a single from a new EP coming up April 3rd, 2020 called Hold On To Yourself. “The Enemy I Know” is “a song about autonomy after abuse survival from a woman’s perspective” and was mixed by Kurt Ballou of Converge.

PRAŸ – SELF TITLED
Now it’s time to get a little heavy with some psychedelics. This French, Female-Fronted, Heavy Psych Instrumental band Praÿ’s self titled album is a beautiful array of dark 60’s music with a cloak of grunge. This album is perfect for a doom metal beach day! That’s what I feel like doing when I first put this on (after I finally make my escape!) — epic surfer/stoner/doom music. And since it’s all instrumental, it just takes my mind to different places entirely — no guidelines, just kind of running wild (which I like). Keeping this band in mind next time I want to throw a Doom-style Luau!
